Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Nicaragua

On your arrival at the airport in Managua (MGA), our driver will welcome you and will transfer you to your hotel in “downtown” Managua. Transfer time 30m approx.~ Overnight at Hotel Los Robles 3* for one night – 1 Superior room. Meals: None

Day 2: Transfer to Leon and visit to the City

Today, we will transfer you to Leon, former capital of the country. Transfer time: 2.5 hours approx. Along the way, we will make a stop to try a “Quesillo” and a “Tiste”, a typical dish and beverage. On arrival in Leon we will go for an interesting guided tour. We will have the opportunity to visit some of its main churches. The Cathedral of Leon is also known as Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption of Leon and its official name is Insigne and Real Basilica Cathedral of the assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary; here you will be able to take the stairs and reach the cathedrals rooftop for an amazing view of the city and surrounding volcanoes. You will also tour the magnificent Ortiz-Gurdián Art Gallery which features many famous artists painting from Europe and Central America, this gallery is located in 2 colonial homes. Also see the street murals, silent witnesses of the turbulent history of the city… Duration: 3 hours approx. ~ Difficulty: Easy Note: Most sightseeing places are closed on Monday in Leon. Day 3: Hike and sandboarding Cerro Negro Adventure

Today, enjoy a great adventure in the active volcano “Cerro Negro”. Born in 1850, it is one of the most active volcanoes in Nicaragua. Cerro Negro “Black Mount” is the most recent of a group of four very young cinder cones in the central Maribios. Hiking to the top takes less than an hour; a sort of trail has been made in the rocks and volcanic ashes. Once at the summit, the overwhelming views will be the reward you had ever imagined, sulfur coming out from many places, crater and also from the shores. Later get ready for the highlight of your tour: the “sandboarding”, an exciting sport which allows visitors to descend the black sands of Cerro Negro strapped onto a board. You will receive a short technical training from your experienced bilingual guide. Put on the protective equipment provided for your safe descent and get ready for the ride of your life! Day 4: Transfer to Selva Negra via San Jacinto Boiling Muds

This morning, we will transfer you north to the highlands of Matagalpa, a region known for its fresh, cool weather and delicious coffee. Transfer time: 2.5 hours approx. Along the way, we will make a stop to visit San Jacinto, a small village located between 2 volcanoes which hide the “Hervideros”, these geysers whose vapor with 300°C leaves the entrails of the ground permanently. Many local kids of the village will propose you their “service of guide”, it is recommended to choose one of them and you can give them a tip at the end of the visit. Duration: 30 minutes approx. ~ Difficulty: Easy Overnight at Hotel Selva Negra 2* for two nights – 1 Single-room bungalow. Meals: B

Day 5: Matagalpa City Tour & Indigenous weavers

This morning, your guide will meet you for a half day tour of Matagalpa. You will learn about the culture, economy, history, and way of life of the “Matagalpinos”. On this tour, you will visit the workshop of a group of women fabric weavers where we will see the production process as well as the different products that they make such as: bags, purses and backpacks. If interested you may even partake in the production process. The tour continues with a walk to the “El Calvario” viewpoint where you can enjoy great views of the city and surrounding mountains. You will also visit the White Cathedral, coffee museum and Parque Morazan. End the tour tasting the local “güirilas” (a tortilla made of corn) which is a typical dish of Matagalpa! Day 6: Transfer to Managua Airport and flight to Corn Island

Today, our driver will meet you at the lobby of your hotel and will transfer you to the international airport in Managua to take you’re a domestic flight to the Caribbean Corn Islands. Transfer time 2.5 hours approx.~ Upon arrival, clear customs and then walk to the exit. Take a taxi (on your own) to the port and get a public boat (on your own, transfer is 30m approx.~) to Little Corn Island. The two Corn Islands, Big Corn Island and Little Corn Island are lush with exotic fruit trees, native Palms and surrounded by white sand beaches… On arrival, a representative from your hotel will meet you at the dock to take you to your hotel. Overnight at Hotel Little Corn Beach & Bungalow 2* for three nights – 1 Suite Crusoe. Meals: B

Day 7: At leisure in Little Corn Island

Day at leisure in Little Corn Island! Enjoy the Caribbean atmosphere of the tiny island, blue turquoise water and white sandy beaches. Overnight at Hotel Little Corn Beach & Bungalow 2* – 1 Suite Crusoe. Meals: None

Day 8: At leisure in Little Corn Island

Day 9: Flight to Managua and transfer to Granada

Early morning departure with the boat back to Big Corn Island. Upon arrival at the docks take a local taxi back to the airstrip, from where you will take your schedule flight back to Managua. On your schedule arrival, our driver will welcome you and will transfer you to Granada, the Jewel of Nicaraguan Cities! Transfer time 45m approx.~ Overnight at Hotel Patio del Malinche 2* sup for three nights – 1 Superior room. Meals: None

Day 10: Islander Half Day Tour and City Tour

This morning, enjoy a relaxing adventure in a private ecological island, truly a wonderful experience! See some the most 365 beautiful islands in Lake Nicaragua and their rich flora and fauna. The islands were formed thousands of years ago, after an eruption of nearby Mombacho volcano (now extinct). They are now covered with lush, tropical vegetation. You will be able to observe some of the many species of tropical birds that live in the islands and its inhabitants (“Isleños) living peacefully in simple yet decent conditions. Arrive in a private ecological island, enjoy lunch there and time at leisure with kayaks available to discover this paradise located amidst nature, in front of the Mombacho volcano. Duration: 5 hours approx. ~ Difficulty: Easy In the afternoon, our guide will meet you at the lobby of your hotel to go on a cultural visit of the city, partly on foot and by horse drawn carriage pulled by two horses and conducted by a local driver. Back in the colonial times, most people used this way of transport to travel in the city. Visit places like the La Casa de los Tres Mundos: art gallery and cultural academy, the convent of San Francisco church, Iglesia La Merced, from its tower you will have great views of the city and other interesting historic landmarks. Day 11: Hike at Mombacho Volcano Cloud Forest and visit to Masaya areas

Early transfer to the Mombacho Volcano Natural, the dormant guardian of the city! This nature reserve it’s a 1400 meters high volcano that has been dormant for thousand years now and is totally covered with vegetation. This has created a rich ecosystem where live 50 species of mammals, 174 species of birds, 30 species of reptiles and 750 species of flora. A powerful truck will drive you all the way to the top of the extinct volcano. You will go through coffee plantations to the cloud forest which offers exceptional sites to discover its flora and fauna. Once at the top of the volcano you will hike in the cloud forest along the “Crater Trail”. On the way there are several lookouts that boast stunning views to the crater and its lush vegetation, the city of Granada, Masaya smoking volcano, Lake Nicaragua and the Islands (views available if weather permits it!). Duration: 4 hours approx. ~ Difficulty: Easy Following our hike in the cloud forest, we will visit the town of Masaya and its surroundings. First, we will visit Catarina to enjoy magnificent views to the Apoyo lagoon and San Juan de Oriente, where we visit a local workshop. Participate in the creation process of the beautiful souvenirs! Later, we take you to visit the Handicraft Market in Masaya city where you can enjoy the creativity and variety of Nicaraguan art at bargain prices. To end the tour, we will go for a nocturnal visit of the Masaya volcano, one of Nicaragua's most interesting and beautiful natural phenomena. Take a peek into the impressive crater currently displays gaseous activity and incandescent lava lake in its interior Note: Please note that due safety restrictions, visitors are only allowed to stay 15 minutes near the crater. Day 12: Transfer to San Juan del Sur visiting Ometepe Island on the way

Early morning transfer you to San Juan del Sur in the Pacific Ocean coast. On the way to the beach, we make a detour to San Jorge to board a 1-hour ferry to visit the fabulous Ometepe Island. On arrival we visit places like the “El Ceibo” the best archaeological and numismatic museum of Nicaragua. You will also visit the Charco Verde reserve, learn here the legend of Chico Largo and Mama Bucha while admiring the beautiful green puddle lagoon and trying to spot the elusive birds. On the shores of Santo Domingo beach, you will then enjoy a typical Nicaraguan lunch before continuing to the “El Ojo de Agua”, a natural pool of clear water supplied by a river that originates from Concepcion Volcano, where you can go swimming and relaxing. In the late afternoon take the ferry again back to mainland and from there continue to San Juan del Sur. Overnight at Hotel La Posada Azul 3* for two nights - 1 Standard room. Meals: B, L

Day 13: At leisure in San Juan del Sur

Day at leisure at this beautiful beach town; time to have fun at a relaxing beach! Optional activities such as: Sailing trip, fishing, horseback riding, visit to the nearby beaches can be organized. Day 14: Transfer to Managua Airport

Depending your flight schedule, our driver will meet you at the lobby of your hotel and will transfer you to the international airport in Managua to take your flight back home. Transfer time 2.5 hours approx.~ Come back soon to sunny Nicaragua!
